Incidentally

Spit splicing totally works!

File under "Things the whole world knew but Robynn never really believed because the one time she tried it she did it wrong".

I got quite ridiculously excited, tugging at that little bit of alpaca that was previously two little bits of alpaca. Wow. No knots! My life is transformed!

OMG I've got to try that!!

Yes! You must. It's magic. Somehow I was never quite convinced that this was a better option than knots (cos, you know, I'd always used knots, what was wrong with a good solid knot anyways...). More fool me.

I can't remember exactly what yarn I failed with before, but I think it's important to be sure you're using feltable animal fibres, and it probably helps to have a good multi-ply yarn too.

I love spit splicing! The sheer joy of not having to weave in nearly as many ends cannot be overstated.
