This beautiful laceweight Muga silk has a clear conscience: no caterpillars were harmed in its making. The base yarn is handspun in eastern India, where the production of cruelty-free silk supports traditional community industry and protects environments threatened by clearcutting, and is then dyed in Canada using all-natural plant dyes. Feel-good yarn in more ways than one.

Recommended needle size: 2mm-3mm

Naturally dyed yarns may behave differently to what you’re used to. The palest colours may fade, so are best used for items that won’t be washed too often, while the darker colours are fast, but may contain excess colour that will rub off - so don’t wear them over white. The dyes also affect the softness of the yarn, as they (especially the darker colours) change the alkalinity; however, careful washing will restore the yarn’s natural softness.
We recommend handwashing using Soak (NB: please do rinse the Soak out for once) or pH balanced soap, and adding a splash of vinegar to the final rinse. The vinegar helps to restore clarity of colour.
