Kate Atherley, Designer, tech editor, tutor and expert knitter is bring her expertise to Purlescence for three of her workshops.

Lace Knitting 101

New Year, New You? or prehaps New Skill. This introductory class is great for existing knitters who want to explore lace knitting.

Through swatching, you’ll look at a variety of different stitch patterns and understand how to follow both written and charted instructions.

You’ll also discuss shaping, directional decreases and how to use a lifeline.

You’ll leave the class with a choice of patterns to start your first lace project and there will be help on hand to choose a suitable yarn.

Kate's classes are intractive, relaxed, and friendly. Where better to add a new skill to your knitting.

Kate Atherley is Knitty.com’s Managing Technical Editor, and a seasoned designer and teacher of all things knitterly. Known for her attention to detail in her patterns and her classes. Her work has appeared in many books and magazines. An expert instructor, Kate has over a decade of experience teaching at local yarn shops, guild gatherings, retreats, and large-scale events. She is also the author of six books about knitting, knitting designs, and pattern writing.

Workshops at Purlescence

Workshops at Purlescence are held in the spacious and beautifully lit Yarn Room at our Leckhampstead HQ on the Berkshire Downs near Newbury.

There is good access from the M4 and A34 and plenty of free parking just a few steps from our door. Should you wish to come by train, we run a free collection service from Didcot Station.

The price of your workshop includes all refreshments and if you have booked both workshops on Saturday or Sunday, there will be a finger buffet at a suitable break during the day.
