Yarn Shopping Bootcamp

Baffled by Skeins, balls, and cakes? Do you know your Merino from your Blue Faced Leicester? Confused over Fingering, DK and Sportweight? Then is workshop is for you.

Kate will go through the key yarn characteristics; weights and gauge, fibres and their properties.

We will also take an in-depth look at variegated yarns, a guide to judging them in the skein and learn how they might knit up. Also, suggestions for pattern stitches and projects to make the most of them.

We want you to make the best yarn choices for your projects. You won’t just learn what you need, but what you need to know.

This will be the most leisurely and enjoyable bootcamp you will ever go on.

Kate Atherley is Knitty.com’s Managing Technical Editor, and a seasoned designer and teacher of all things knitterly. Known for her attention to detail in her patterns and her classes. Her work has appeared in many books and magazines. An expert instructor, Kate has over a decade of experience teaching at local yarn shops, guild gatherings, retreats, and large-scale events. She is also the author of six books about knitting, knitting designs, and pattern writing.

Workshops at Purlescence

Workshops at Purlescence are held in the spacious and beautifully lit Yarn Room at our Leckhampstead HQ on the Berkshire Downs near Newbury.

There is good access from the M4 and A34 and plenty of free parking just a few steps from our door. Should you wish to come by train, we run a free collection service from Didcot Station.

The price of your workshop includes all refreshments and if you have booked both workshops on Saturday or Sunday, there will be a finger buffet at a suitable break during the day.
